TYSON MATTHEW KOTTELENBERG

"The Lord is faithful to all His promises, and loving toward all He has made." Psalm 145: 13b

This blog is about our eight year old son Tyson. Tyson was born with serious complex congenital heart defects, (Hypoplastic Right Ventricle, Tricuspid Atresia, Coarctation of Aorta, Transposed Great Arteries, with VSD and ASD.)
In short, the right side of his heart is completely under-developed (he has half a heart,) his main arteries are mixed up, and his aorta is narrow. He has undergone 3 open-heart surgeries and 5 heart cath procedures to try to 'repair' his heart. Sadly, Tyson has also been diagnosed with pulmonary vein stenosis, a fatal disease in the veins of his left lung. Typically, having the 3 palliative surgeries buys children with single ventricle hearts many years before eventually needing a transplant. But because of the narrow pulmonary veins, this increase in pressure is causing his blood to shunt the opposite way across his Fontan fenestration and surgeons are not able to close the fenestration. As a result, he remains on coumadin and is heading down the transplant road faster than we'd originally anticipated. He's still doing AMAZINGLY well all things considered. We entrust our dear son into the hands of God, knowing that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him!

More Pictures of Tyson's Wish Trip

Here are a few of our favorite pics from our stay at Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee, Florida.  If you want to see a play-by-play of our trip (including lots more pics!)  just click on the month of February on the right hand side of the blog, and each day of excitement is documented.

THANK-YOU 'GIVE KIDS THE WORLD VILLAGE' AND 'MAKE A WISH!'
Our family feels so blessed to have been given such a wonderful opportunity.  We made so many memories that we will *never* forget for as long as we live.  So grateful and so thankful.
Absolutely love his smiles

This is by far our FAVORITE pics of the entire trip.  Tyson is just SUPER happy and we are all really enjoying our time at Give Kids the World Village.
Tyson was SO happy!
At Seaworld each of our kids received a free tray of fish to feed the dolphins.  When the dolphin trainer saw that Tyson was a Wish Child (Tyson wore a special Give Kids the World button - we called it his 'Magic Button.'), she paid extra attention to him and even called this dolphin up close so that we could all pet him.

Kenya meets Belle at the Castle of Miracles in the Village

Belle wins Tyson over - not bad for a kid who didn't want to get 'princess germs.'

The 3 Princesses
Tyson chatting with Spiderman at Universal Studios.  Another favorite pic!
This is the 8X10 we received from Universal Studios. Love it!

I think his spidey senses are tingling...

Braden really enjoyed the horses too, and was glad they weren't ponies or he would have been too big to ride
